Pet Shops Exposed: Uncovering Abuse, Mobilising Change
The ‘pet’ trade is often viewed through rose-tinted glasses in our society. Many of us have happy memories of visiting a ‘pet’ shop and taking home an animal to ‘own’ - but the reality of this industry is completely hidden from view. Snakes are the only vertebrate animals who aren’t legally required to be able to stretch when held captive. Fishes are seen as nothing more than decorations. Hamsters are often destined to spend their lives in small cages in children’s bedrooms. The list of ‘pet’ industry animal abuse scandals goes on and on.The ‘pet’ trade is rife with some of the worst forms of animal exploitation and cruelty in the UK. Despite this, hardly any vegans are talking about it. We want to change that.
Hosted by Rescue Not Retail and The Pet Shop Campaign, this event will be an educational evening…
